This place has so much potential

This place has so much potential! The facilities, location, view and staff are there! The whole place just needs a good lick of paint and some touch-ups to make it an amazing hotel - it's all just pretty tired really

The staff are very helpful and polite. The view of Lamai is breathtaking.

The entire property is in a poor decorative state. Shoddy repairs and poor materials and workmanship abound. The photos of our room on booking.com didn’t compare to the condition of our room. Our room was 130 steps down the cliff with no elevator on the site, so returning to the room for a forgotten item is too much! The location is poor. There’s no shopping or restaurants nearby. You need to get a taxi to Lamai or Cheweng.

so looking forward to going to the resort but it lacked in most departments . staff however were very friendly and accom

the bed was nice and comfy

the pictures of the property make it look inviting and luxurious. the reality was the rooms were not 4 star standard and full of mosquitoes. lots of lights of steps up and down to the room and lots of debris / rubbish on the hill side disappointed as it was not 4 star standard

really disappointed with place but relly nice staff

the staff is really kind and they helped us a lot with the accomodation

the instalations are under construction and it looks like no one is taking care of tue resort, only the restaurant for visitors. we cancelled the reservation and left the hotel the day after. it was a shame for us :(

The view but it's kind of boring cause the balcony is...

The view but it's kind of boring cause the balcony is not very big and I knew some of the rooms don't even have a view and all trees in front of the rooms. The only good thing is this hotel offered free shuttle to the city centre but only until 17:00 daily.

Breakfast: Went to the only restaurant and tried the breakfast on day 1, very dirty, I saw cockroach on the food plate at the "buffet line", very limited choice of food and beverages Free wifi: Very unstable and no coverage at most of the time, while it was raining and without wifi, I had to go to Vikasa Café to use the wifi (means I need to order F&B there) Room cleaniness: It was ok but had a feeling of insects will fly in, there is always ants in the bathroom Restaurant: I would rather they closed the restaurant as most of the time there is no customers / a few staff there chatting Language: Staff simply doesn't speak any English, very hard to communicate there, I was quite surprised there are plenty mainland tourists stayed there Noisy: Since there are plenty mainland tourists stayed in the same hotel, they were quite noisy by the poolside and even passed by the other's rooms, they just kept talking / shouting to each other until return to rooms and closed the door heavily. The furniture in the property worn-down and obviously lack of maintenance, the lights in the room was very dark, I tried very hard to look at my book and computer in the room at night, the lights in the bathroom was quite bright and it was very strange for me to read book and use computer in the bathroom since it wasn't very clean.

- Nobody told us wifi password and we had to come all the...

- Nobody told us wifi password and we had to come all the way upstaires again to ask it. - Restaurant was being repaired so there was nowhere to eat but order room service which is ridiculously expensive - Nothing is close to this place so there is absolutely nothing to do but to sit in your little house

All in all a disappointment for such a nice location

The location and breakfast stuff was kind, big pool

First my reservation was not found, they said due to internet problems. Then the room is a fix of “Hightech” (like one remote for all lights and a telephone) and run-down furniture and walls. The telephone to call reception was making only rustling sounds and one day there was no room service and when I told reception nothing happened. It’s 99percent Chinese staying there who mostly don’t know how to behave and scream throughout the resort. .

There was no bar service or any kind of service at the pool or the beach. There’s no designated swimming area at the beach and the rocks make hard and dangerous to swim

Exceptional

Now traveling across Thailand we miss our home at Merit hotel. We should have stayed longer. Our apartment/room had easy access to the pool, the restaurant, the gym, meditation room and a short walk down to the secret beach. The room was spacious and clean, and every day the staff came and tidied up and emptied our bins and gave us water. The staff at Merit hotel were like family, friendly and happy and always wanting to help. It's a great location over looking the waters of our room to the sea, we could hear the water and sea from our room. We also had a nice balcony, the area was also super quiet and everyone who stayed was respectful. Also the restaurant had great views and the food was amazing including some new foods and drinks which we discovered.

The bath wasn't working, there was an issue with the plumbing and the bathtub wouldn't fill up. I did raise this with one of the staff but it didn't get resolved but it wasnt an issue because the rest of the space was perfect and we also had a working shower.

The view was amazing

There is no basic cleanliness, ants on the bathroom floor, sink, jaccuzzi which was not capable of being used, there was renovation going on which we were not notified about and the restaraunt closes at 7pm which was bad. Have stayed here 2 years ago and were very disappointed with the current state of the resort and cleanliness in general.

We had an enjoyable time in Koh Samui but not at the Merit Resort... Deceptive Website..

A good ocean view... the only thing on the website that was true.

I read past reviews which were mixed, but lean more towards the negative. I felt sorry for the staff who obviously have no training when it comes to customer service and... it showed. To get information about tours you had to ask.. no information forthcoming voluntarily. The rooms were absolutely run-down and dirty. The television was the old style 19" Samsung of the July 2008 vintage... only one English channel and one other Thai channel (programming you can actually watch, assuming you spoke the language) available out of maybe 12. The signal on the English speaking channel was so heavily pixillated, effectively, no TV. The website advertised a Spa, poolside bar...None existed...maybe at one time it did...beach... no beach... only huge boulders and rocks... simple solution would have been to offer a shuttle service to a nearby real beach... The morning breakfast... the only thing we felt safe having was an omelette as we were pretty sure was they were made fresh that day... and fruit. The rest of the offerings... left-overs from the previous days... The breakfast sausage looked like they were made from plastic, so we avoided them, (we later discovered, they had been slipping them into our omelettes)... the coffee had that burnt, stale taste... so in order to have a fresh cup of morning coffee, we brought the little Nescafe packs from our room and requested hot water. We had most of our meals at the hotel next door's restaurant. The hot water kettle in our room had a film in the bottom... so we never used it. Oh... let me say a bit more about the room... the furnishings were original... the curtain supports were hanging down on one end, when we moved the curtains to the other side, the window frames, which were made of wood, were rotted through... I could see daylight... in addition to what came through the glass...
